I know what you’re thinking: this is National Blueberry Cheesecake Day in New York City, you don’t even have to bother to look here for a cheesecake recommendation! I’ve already made mention of Eileen’s Special Cheesecakes on National Cherry Cheesecake Day and Junior’s Devil’s Food Cheesecake on National Devil’s Food Cake Day , and in my opinion, those are the top two places to get a New York-style cream cheese cheesecake in the entire city. Bar none. So if all you’re looking for on Blueberry Cheesecake Day is a great slice of cake to sink your teeth into, covered in a gooey, sweet blueberry jam, definitely head to either one of those fine establishments and your craving will be instantly filled!

But if you’ve had your quota of rich, dense traditional cheesecakes this month, get yourself a bite-sized treat in the form of a blueberry cheesecake cupcake at Molly’s Cupcakes on Bleecker Street. Molly’s Cupcakes, a newcomer to the city by way of its flagship Chicago store, has made its name both in the Midwest and in New York for their unconventional, yet utterly delicious, cupcake flavor combinations. You can make your own combo (which many bakeries now also provide) with cupcake toppings on top of the typical frosting, like chocolate chips to gummy bears and marshmallow fluff. Some of their signature flavor combinations include Tiramisu, Cookie Monster (which has a cookie dough center–yum!), and blueberry cheesecake, which boasts a cream cheese frosting–proving that this cupcake is all New York. A great alternative to a whole slice of Junior’s, Molly’s blueberry cheesecake cupcake is the perfect size for those looking to indulge on this food holiday–but also need to scale back after celebrating all the other sweets holidays this month!

“The extensive roster offers flavors ranging from Nutella-peanut butter to blueberry cheesecake to classic vanilla, plus Molly’s even offers a build-your-own option, should you want, say, red velvet cake topped with vegan chocolate icing and gummy bears.”–Village Voice

Some reviews from Yelp.com:

“Blueberry cheesecake cupcake was definitely a cheesecake. rather on the actual base, I liked the garnish, which was made out of graham cracker. I’m guessing they were paying respects to the original graham cracker crusted cheese cakes, because their cheesecake cupcake is light and fluffy like a angel food cake rather than a creamy cheesecake.”–R. Y.

“FANTASTIC. Something for everyone, you won’t regret it. Great variety, from chocolate to berries to cheesecake and beyond. BIG cupcakes, easy to share. Very moist, delicious filling, flavorful frosting, amazing. Blueberry cheesecake is great, peach cobbler, cookies & cream… All so good. You definitely need to stop here!”–Jessica G.
