January 22 – Blonde Brownie Day

While the blonde brownie, or “blondie,” is considered to be the non-chocolate equivalent of a brownie, their makeups and consistencies–and definitely their flavors–are very different. Instead of cocoa powder giving the blondie its flavor, like with brownies, the main sweet component is brown sugar. They usually come out denser than chocolate brownies, and because the flavor is more subtle than the powerful, popular cocoa, more things are usually added to the batter or on top of blondies, such as chocolate chips, nuts, coconut, or anything else that might taste sweet and delicious 🙂

You won’t find as many blondies advertised in New York City bakeries as brownies, but they’re as much of a staple as its more well-recognized confectionary cousin.
