January 15 – Strawberry Ice Cream Day
Some of the selections for these national food days just perplexes me, hahaha. When you think of strawberry ice cream, you imagine a warm summer day, late in the afternoon, where you can pick up some fresh-churned ice cream with diced strawberries freshly picked from the fields earlier in the day. Or even not, you can imagine yourself blissfully enjoying a carton of Breyer’s in the comforts of your living room, cooling the day away in the comforts of your air conditioning. You usually don’t think about having this delightful dessert in the middle of January.
But for those of you with an insatiable sweet tooth any time of the year, strawberry ice cream is the perfect fix. Head to the Lower East Side for Stellina’s, where they make an outstanding brown sugar strawberry flavor. It passes the strawberry ice cream litmus test–instead of feeling overly artificial, it tastes like real, fresh strawberries.

Some reviews from Yelp.com:
“I’m picky when it comes to Strawberry ice cream. I don’t like artificial tasting strawberry. This tasted like perfectly ripe strawberries – a great balance of sweetness and tartness.”–Nina C.
“Brown sugar strawberry was by far our favorite. I’ve never been a fan of strawberry ice cream, as it typically tastes way too artificial and sweet. The strawberry taste is light and is wonderfully enhanced with the brown sugar. Once we tasted it, our conversation dumbed down to a series of rapturous grunts and one-worded questions and answers.”–Karina L.
